FOOD SOVEREIGNTY

..."Our food, our future: Reclaiming food sovereignty."

We promote food sovereignty through strengthening the capacity of smallholder farmers to use ecologically sound and sustainable agricultural practices and participate in policy formulation resulting in enhanced access and fairness in the Kenyan food system.

We believe that food sovereignty is the right for all people to have access to healthy, culturally appropriate food produced through sustainable methods. Food sovereignty also means that people have the right to control their food systems and to be free from the domination of agricultural multinational corporations.

Our work in promoting food sovereignty for smallholder farmers includes:

  • Providing training on ecologically sound agricultural practices, such as agroforestry, organic farming, and water conservation techniques.

  • Helping farmers to establish and participate in farmer-to-farmer networks and cooperatives.

  • Advocating for policies that support smallholder farmers and food sovereignty.

We are committed to promoting sustainable food systems that are:

  • Free from harmful pesticides: We promote the use of ecological agriculture practices that do not rely on harmful pesticides and herbicides.

  • Abundant and affordable: Growth Partners Africa works to support smallholder farmers to produce enough food to feed themselves and their communities. The organization also advocates for policies that make food more affordable for all.

  • In line with the culture and traditions of the people: We recognize the importance of food culture and traditions. Therefore we promote the production and consumption of traditional foods.

Urban Farming

Growth Partners Africa is helping urban communities create spaces for urban agriculture (UA) in Kenyan towns, encourage public investment, and support the diverse practices and practitioners growing food in urban areas.

  • "Indigenous foodways: Honoring traditions, preserving knowledge."
